ALDEA Language Training
Learn a language, speak a culture.
Anne-Geri' (pronounced "ann-juh-REE") moved to Nashville, TN from Atlanta, GA in 2003. Since then she has been tutoring Spanish online, promoting her book, How to Get Ready for Short-Term Missions, and running her travel agency, Blue Mountain Travel Company. Her education includes a B.A. in Theology/Greek from Harding University and an M.S. in Theology from Abilene Christian University. "Profa" (sometimes Profe), which is short for profesor(a) (teacher) in Spanish, is a nickname Angie is used to hearing from her students, even if they're not taking her language classes. Ironically, it was a student mistake which stuck because "Profe Fann" sounds funny.
It is Anne-Geri’s privilege to be involved in cultural awareness, which is one of the reasons teaching Spanish is such a passion. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand, was a University Student in Florence, Italy (1989), and assisted as a secretary for World Relief in Vienna, Austria (target Romania, 1991). She has enjoyed stuffy nights on an Italian train, accidentally body-surfed in Hawaii, tore a piece off the Berlin Wall right after it fell and has fallen asleep to the sounds of rain on a tin roof in an adobe home on top of a Honduran mountain. She has lived and worked in Honduras since 1988, and although she considers it her second home, most of her extended family are in Texas where she vaguely remembers living at one point in her life. She recently stretched her language ability to German by spending a summer at the Goethe Institute in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
Anne-Geri' and her husband, David, met “over the light of the copy machine” in the teacher's lounge of an Atlanta high school; they married in 1999. They both lived in Catacamas, Honduras summer 2003 while working with PrediSan Health Clinic and continue to assist in the direction of short-term humanitarian trips to Honduras and Guatemala. David works full time at Vanderbilt University with the ISIS Project. David and Anne-Geri' have three spoiled animals and a plan to start an adopted family soon. At that point Rosie, Gus and Satchel will become actual pets.
This native-of-nowhere enjoys her very large vegetable and herb garden, reading, writing, playing the flute, throwing clay in her pottery studio, and a good cup of hot tea after a hearty hike in the mountains (she's a bit of a hippie). One of her favourite hobbies is acting; she has been involved in many stage productions in the community and professional theatres of Nashville (which you can learn more about through her personal website). She doesn’t plan on ever missing a World Cup game even if it comes on at three in the morning. Her favourite animal is the donkey, because when it brays it reminds her that even on her best day as a human being she sounds pretty ridiculous compared to what God is probably like.
